The Cribarth Mountain overlooking the village of Abercrave has the profile of a reclining man and is known as "The Sleeping Giant". It is most easily seen from the A4067 road, just south of Abercrave. According to local folklore, the giant will awaken from his slumber and come to the aid of his people in their time of greatest need. The mountain has many footpaths leading past old quarries and silica sand mines to explore and was once criss-crossed by horse drawn tramways, many of which can still be traced on the landscape.
