The Transporter Bridge in Newport is one of only seven transporter bridges left in the world and is fully operational. Designed by the French architect, Ferdinand Arnodin, and built in 1906, it is now a Grade I listed structure. The bridge was closed in 1985 due to wire breakages but underwent a £3 million refurbishment and was reopened in 1995. Visitors can now take their car onto the gondola that travels across the river or board as foot passengers. The bridge offers a unique way to travel across the Usk!
