The remains of the Cistercian abbey at Tintern in the beautiful Wye valley are a spectacular sight regardless of the weather or time of day. The ruins, which are amazingly intact and include the cloister, stand majestically on the banks of the river Wye in this picturesque Monmouthshire village. Owned by Cadw, visitors must pay to walk around the ruins although they are clearly visible without doing so. In addition to the abbey, the village has several gift shops, little pubs and scenic walks to offer the enthusiastic visitor.
