With a population of around 250, this small village near Reading was recorded in the Doomsday book as Elleorde meaning "old farm". The parish church is famous for the largest collection of Medieval memorials to the De la Beche family, who were wealthy landowners during the 14th century. The monuments are known as The Aldworth Giants as some are over 7 feet tall. The village is also noted for its successful cricket team.
