Built by the Keynes family in the 12th century, this large castle was originally a large earth ringwork and bailey fortress which was occupied until the 13th century. Its remains are all that are left now, however it is still possible to clearly see the outlines of fort which once existed. A square inner bailey and an outer bailey are both outlined by low mounds, ramparts and ditches. Visitors are able to access the site by a short walk from Back Street in the village.
