John Carr was an eminent architect of the 18th Century and was commissioned to build this fantastic Palladian mansion for Francis Sykes, a wealthy man who had made his fortune in India. As well as being a spectacular sight from the outside, the mansion is noted for having an opulent and ornate interior that exhibits some of the tastes that the owner picked up during his time spent in the east.
