English Heritage established this purpose designed facility close to Portsmouth in order to centralise a great deal of the archaeological work that they do as an organisation, both alone and alongside other academic and historic preservation societies. The centre has some interesting public displays which show just some of the exciting discoveries that have been made underground, and how the processes of excavation work.
