In a quiet country village it is startling to find so impressive a church. The Church of St Mary, St Katherine and All the Saints is all that remains of an Augustinian priory. It was built by an Edington-born man who had risen to become Bishop of Winchester. William of Edington first founded a chantry for himself in the parish church. He added living quarters for the priests and by 1361 he had rebuilt the whole church along splendid lines.
