Fort Brockhurst was designed by William Crossman in the 19th Century to protect Portsmouth from potential sea born attacks. It is representative of the Palmerston style of forts, popular at this time. The fort is largely intact, although in places there is damage. The main gun posts, parade ground and moat are still largely as they were when the fort was constructed. The site is managed and maintained by English Heritage.
