What many would argue is one of the most impressive pieces of 18th Century defensive architecture, Fort Cumberland is certainly a beautiful and most recognisable part of the local area. It is thought that construction of the building took around thirty years and was started in 1785. The fort is close to the harbour and beach, offering a great location for a whole day out.
