The first floor restaurant of the Haunch of Venison extends into the building next door with decorative bargeboards. Both buildings form part of a row of timber-framed shops built in the 15th Century along one side of the Market Square. Mainly they replaced stalls set out on market days, but it seems that the nearby Church of St Thomas had built a church house on the site of the Haunch of Venison in 1320.
