What a remarkable survival from Tudor times. Cloth merchant Thomas Horton paid for the building in 1500 of a church house. It would have been used for church ales - festivals which raised funds for the church - and other parish business. Later it was turned into cottages and then a school. Restoration brought it back into use as a church hall. The wing at right-angles was a cloth hall, now used as a Masonic temple.
