Jesus College was founded in 1571 by eight commissioners, of whom Hugh Price is often credited as the main force, and received its Royal Charter from Elizabeth I. A traditional rival of Exeter College, Jesus was also started as a clergymen’s school. As time went on the institution broadened its curriculum to include law and medicine, and today offers almost every subject. Situated in the very centre of Oxford, the college occupies a relatively small site compared to many of its neighbouring colleges, but is considered one of the more aesthetically pleasing colleges.
