Set in the heart of the famous Purbeck hills, this well run museum houses documents, artefacts and photographs relating to the history of the local Parish. In particular, it gives a fascinating insight into the history of the stone industry, which has shaped the surrounding villages and countryside. Exhibits include a large collection of stonemasons' tools and 'practice pieces' made by apprentices working with local Portland stone. A realistic reconstruction of underground quarry workings shows what conditions were once like for quarrymen.
