In 1700 John Hall built this almshouse which still accommodates four elderly men. The arms of the Halls are carved over the door. John Hall came from a family that had long been prominent in Bradford-on-Avon. They grew wealthy on the cloth trade. But John was the last of the Halls. The letters "K" and "M" with coronets above carved on the almshouse chimneys refer to his heirs the Dukes of Kingston and Earls Manvers.
