St Mary’s church is at the top of what is known as the Plestor (play area) in the pretty village of Selborne in Hampshire. It is of 12th Century origin and was probably built on the site of an older Saxon church. The village is famous for its connections with Gilbert White who was a famous naturalist. Inside the church are two stained glass windows commemorating him, and his grave is in the adjoining churchyard. In the chancel there are two 15th Century seats and a bench which White wrote about. The church also has a one-handed clock from the 17th Century which is thought to be the oldest in Hampshire.
