This theological college was established in 1860 in this late 17th Century house. Its warm red brick front is an exercise in calm symmetry. But when the Victorian architect William Butterfield was asked to design a new chapel and library block, he made no attempt to blend it in. He was a keen exponent of the Gothic Revival style, but here added his own twist - an odd octagonal turret.
