St Catherine’s Oratory is a tall medieval tower, octaganal in shape. Many claim that the tower was once used as a lighthouse, although the original use is still a matter for debate. The structure is dated at 1328, and stands at one of the highest points on the Isle of Wight, offering fantastic views across the countryside and seascape. The local people call the tower the ‘Pepperpot’ and it is cared for by English Heritage.
