One of the newer colleges of Oxford, St. Peter’s wasn’t founded until 1929, the vision of Francis James Chavasse, Bishop of Liverpool. His plan was to create a college in Oxford that would offer higher education for people from modest means and modest backgrounds. Although a modern college, it is built around the 900 year old parish church of St. Peter-le-Bailey, which is now the college chapel, and what gives the institution its name. The college remains committed to the vision of its founder and is considered one of the most progressive Oxbridge colleges.
