Salisbury District Council has the grandest house in the city. It was long known as College House, after the medieval College of St Edmund founded here. Sir Wadham Wyndham, judge of the King’s Bench, bought the remains of the college in 1660. A later Wyndham rebuilt it a decade later, but the house was considerably altered in the 18th century. The north wing was added in 1790 for Henry Penruddocke Wyndham, MP for Salisbury.
