Centrepiece of the D-Day Museum, opened in 1984 to commemorate the invasion’s 40th anniversary, is the Overlord Embroidery designed by Sandra Lawrence and commissioned by Lord Dulverton of Batsford as a tribute to those who took part in Operation Overlord.
The 272 feet long embroidery, a modern counterpart of the Bayeux Tapestry, is the largest work of its kind anywhere in the world and took five years to complete. Other attractions include a film show of historic and archive footage, war vehicles and displays of other D-Day material.
