If you ever visit Portsmouth and look inland at the top of the hill and see an old Victorian fort - that is Fort Nelson and inside it are some 350 big guns and cannons. It is amazing that so many wonderful artillery pieces still exist and in such good condition. What's more the fort itself is a children's playground with battlements, tunnels and cubby holes to find and play in. Simply a wonderful place to visit.

I last visited this attraction when they had a special open day on and there were lots of period reenactors dressed in 18th and 19th Century costumes making the place look really special. Even on non special event days this beautifully restored Napoleonic fort is a wonderful place to visit with loads of big guns, an informative visitor centre and is open all year round, except for Christmas.
