Designed by Matthew Wyatt , this statue of the Duke of Wellington mounted on Copenhagen originally sat on top of London’s Marble Arch. Removed in 1883 when the Arch was repositioned, the then Prince of Wales suggested it be taken to Aldershot ‘where it will be highly valued by the army.’
Made from 40 tons of, mostly, cannon bronze captured at the Battle of Waterloo, the statue is nearly 30 feet high and 26 feet long. The journey to Aldershot took 16 horses four days during August 1884.
