This building has a wedding cake look about it, with its pilasters and swags. It was built in 1850 as a hotel. Later it was converted into a cine-variety theatre, with a lush, gilded auditorium. Now it plays host to a wide variety of touring shows, including concerts, dance, comedy, plays and musicals. There are usually several shows for children each season. It is also the home of Winchester Operatic Society, who regularly perform Gilbert and Sullivan’s operettas.
