As the oldest college of Oxford University, University College is steeped in history and tradition. The college is famous for having expelled the rebellious poet Shelley in 1811 and for educating political leaders such as Bill Clinton and Clement Attlee. Work began on the college’s chapel in the 17th century but the Civil War meant that its completion was delayed by more than twenty years. Visitors can pay to wander around the impressive buildings of the college and gain an insight into past and present student life.
