The University Parks were first opened to the public in 1854. The vast expanse of 70 acres of land on the west side of the river Cherwell was developed near the city centre to allow a beautiful place for city dwellers and students to enjoy natures beauty within the city boundaries. The parks include a great deal of landscaped gardens and are famously home to the Oxford University Cricket team who host games against County Sides, International teams and other University teams throughout the summer months.
