Designed by Alderman J C Millgate, Newport’s War Memorial is located in the heart of Newport on the Isle of Wight. Made of Portland Stone and fashioned into a traditional Celtic cross design, the memorial was unveiled on 16th September 1922 by Princess Beatrice to honour the dead of the town lost during the First World War. Local shipbuilder J Samuel Whites of Cowes assisted in the construction of the memorial that is 28 feet high.
