The Wesley family have a history in the street this church is built on that dates back to before John Wesley was born. John Wesley helped found Methodism on the street in Oxford in 1783 and preached at several sites in the local area. In 1877 the present John Wesley Memorial Church was constructed just yards from Wesley’s family home. This magnificent building towers over many of the local colleges and is one of the centrepieces of the centre of Oxford.
