A part of the World Heritage site at Avebury, this ‘avenue’ of prehistoric stones is one of the most dramatic features in the region, and is a source of constant speculation and mystery. The mile and half pathway was built to link the Sanctuary and the pre-existing monuments at the heart of Avebury. Originally there were a hundred pairs of stones, and English Heritage are in charge of preserving the remains of this site.
