Westgate is one of only two defence gateways to have survived in the city. It dates back to the 12th and 14th centuries and still stands over the city from the top of the High Street. Visitors can climb up into the gateway where there is a museum housing a variety of displays on such themes as architecture, decorative art, law and order, social history, and war. Visitors can also climb further up to the top of the structure which offers wonderful views of Winchester and the Hampshire countryside.
