Winchester City Museum is in the heart of the city close to both the shops and the cathedral. It has a wide variety of exhibitions on display and particular strengths in archaeology, coins and medals, social history, trade and commerce, medicine and photography. The museum also houses some important Anglo-Saxon artefacts including decorative metalwork and sculpture, polychrome relief tiles, and a fragment of a wall painting on stone. Admission is free.
