Witney and District Museum opened in 1996 as an independent museum dedicated to the local area and is entirely run by volunteers and enthusiastic locals. The ground floor contains the primary history collections. This is grouped into categories that include local industry, life in Witney, local buildings and Witney through the ages. Upstairs the Bartlett Taylor Gallery hosts a series of local and regional art exhibitions throughout the year.
