This gracious Queen Anne building was a school for the cathedral choristers from 1714 to 1947. The tradition of choir schools goes back into the Middle Ages. Cathedral schools would teach boys music and grammar. A former pupil of Salisbury Cathedral School, Sir Stephen Fox, provided the funds to build this classroom and dormitories. Today it is the cathedral’s centre for school visits. The school room still has the headmaster`s desk at one end and the assistant master’s desk at the other.
