Although Wycliffe Hall has enjoyed a close relationship with the University of Oxford since its foundation in 1877, the institution only became an official Permanent Private Hall of the university in 1996. The hall was set up as a training ground for Christian though in a Godly setting. This premise has continued to modern day and the hall is still renowned as one of the most famous ecclesiastical academic centres in the world.
