Map
This abbey was founded in 1192 and is situated in a beautiful and peaceful valley a few miles outside of Stranraer. Once one of the most important Cisterian abbeys in the country, only parts of the fantastic architectural example of building in this period survive. The chapter house is dated from the 16th Century and the 13th Century south transept are still in tact. A museum of monastic life is located onsite.
