Kelso Town Hall stands in Kelso Square and was built in 1816 by public subscription to replace the old Tolbooth. It is built in the traditional style to Scottish burghs where the main public buildings are on an “island” surrounded by roads. The original design has been changed, with the ground floor arcade having been enclosed in 1905. In 1841, a clock housed in an unusual octagonal tower was added. With the end of the Town Council and the local court, the interior has been refurbished and now contains the Registrar's office, function rooms and a Tourist Information Centre.
