Penkill Castle is located a few miles away from the small village of Penkill in South Ayrshire, northeast of Girvan. This beautiful piece of 15th Century architecture is an imposing part of the landscape, and at one point would have been one of the most important military strongholds in the region. Now a private residence, the castle has been added to on several occasions, with especially noteworthy building work taking place in the 19th Century.
