Housed in a fine 18th Century tolbooth, this museum charts the life of ordinary Upper Nithsdale people. Exhibits recreate life in a local jail and tell the story of the mines, the local knitting tradition, the history and customs of the Royal Burgh of Sanquhar, three centuries of local literature and shows evidence of the earliest inhabitants of the area, native and Roman. All this can be found in the town's 18th Century Tolbooth.
