Doctor Henry Duncan opened the first savings bank in 1810, and it stood in the original Ruthwell Parish Bank, where the Savings Bank Museum now stands. This interesting collection is made up of a series of home safes, coins and bank notes brought together from the four corners of the globe. The museum also has an extensive exhibition dedicated to the life and work of Duncan himself.
