This tower, which lies about 5 miles west of St. Boswells, is a 60 foot high four storey tower house built of stone and standing on a rocky outcrop. It was built by the Pringle family in 1408, passing to the Scott family of Harden in 1645 who abandoned it to live locally at Sandyknowe in 1700. The most famous descendant of the family, Sir Walter Scott, knew it well from visiting his grandfather and it is thought to have influenced some of his writings. It is now in the care of Historic Scotland.
