This cottage was the home of John Davidson, village souter (shoemaker), who was the original Souter Johnnie of Robert Burns’ Tam o’ Shanter. Life-sized stone figures of the Souter, Tam, the innkeeper and his wife are in the restored alehouse in the cottage garden. The thatched cottage, recently refurbished, contains period furniture, Burns relics and a reconstructed Souter’s workshop.
