The sea below pounds the sheer 90m (300 ft) high cliffs of St. Abb’s Head, situated between farmland and the North Sea. Higher up the cliffs are the homes of colonies of guillemots, kittiwakes, razorbills, shags, fulmars, puffins and herring gulls, which nest on narrow ledges from April to August. St Abb’s Head was declared a National Nature Reserve in 1983 and is the most important location of cliff-nesting seabirds in SouthEast Scotland.
