The Stewartry Museum was opened in 1893 and has one of the largest and most diverse collections in the region, largely focussed on reflecting the human and natural history of the Stewartry, the eastern half of Galloway. Of particular importance are the 18th and 19th Century social exhibitions, showing some day-to-day artefacts belonging to a common man, and giving a glimpse inside the house of a villager.
