In the courtyard near Taunton Castle and the Somerset County Museum is a detached 16th Century almshouse. Quite often throughout the year, one of the museum’s Friends can be found dressed in medieval costume and showing visitors round the tiny almshouse. This is a popular place too for school trips with young pupils who are studying the Tudor era. The sessions demonstrate how the almshouse was constructed, brings the period to life, and provides a contrast to the nearby castle.
