Founded in 1824, this institution is one of the oldest and best respected in the city. The ethos behind the movement was to forward scientific and artistic thinking and the development of new ideas in both fields. The Royal Charter of 1837 meant that the society could find new members quickly and extend its sphere of influence. This collection brings together both artistic works and pieces of research from through the ages.
