Burrator Reservoir is set within the boundaries of Dartmoor National Park, only a few miles from the village of Yelverton. The reservoir was officially opened in 1898 to supply the city of Plymouth with clean drinking water. Subsequent enlargement of the reservoir was required, and work on this was completed in 1929. There are many beautiful walks (or hikes for the more adventurous!) that can be taken in the surrounding moorland area, including one that circles the reservoir itself.
