I walked along the coast path from St Ives to this beach, which took about 30 minutes. It's a lovely stretch of coast, more wooded than St Ives, and because you are quite high up, you can see through the trees right across St Ives Bay, so well worth it.
The beach at Carbis Bay was less crowded than St Ives and the area is generally more peaceful. Apparently the beach merges with Porth Kidney Sands next door, when the tide is out, and you can also explore the Hayle Estuary. I didn’t see anyone surfing, but lots of swimmers were in the water.
