Banwell Church has one of the finest chancel screens in Somerset. Richly carved, it overflows at the top in fan-vaulted coving. This impressive church was founded in Saxon times, but it owes its splendour to the wealth of the local woollen industry in the 15th century. The screen was a last glorious touch, added in 1521. Don’t miss the unusual gallery over the porch. Outside you can see another rare feature on the west wall of the tower: a relief of the Annunciation with a lily.
