Bristol’s major museum has a splendid Edwardian Baroque showcase. The building was a gift to the city by tobacco baron Sir William Henry Wills. Its opulent design by his cousin Sir Frank Wills does justice to the important collections within. A working replica of the Bristol Box Kite of 1910 hangs above the entrance hall. There are outstanding collections of antique glass and oriental ceramics. Geology, archaeology and natural history are all well represented. Only a fraction of the huge art collection is on display. Admission is free.
