Map
Cleeve Abbey in Washford, founded between 1186 and 1191 by William de Roumare, grandson of the Earl of Lincoln, was once inhabited by monks of the Cistercian order. Now under the care of English Heritage, it is England’s most intact and unchanged monastic cloister building. The abbey, with its impressive gatehouse, houses a 15th Century refectory and a 13th Century dormitory. The sacristy has wall painting of the 13th Century and 13th Century mosaic tiled flooring.
